The Kirby Hat Project

Ladies and Gentlemans! I present to you, HextupleyooDOT's famous kirby hats!!

*cricket cricket*

Anywho, if you're not familiar with these, this is something I called the "Kirby Hat Project." These little guys have found their way to LOTS of gaming forums, Youtube, and all sorts of blogs and other sites. (Annoyingly, not a lot of them actually gave credit to the creator. -_-)

Not long after Super Smash Bros. Brawl was first announced, you can imagine how excited I was. Soon after that, the "Super Smash Bros. DOJO" appeared on the interwebz!

Well, being a pretty big kirby fan and a huge SSB fan, I began to imagine what characters might show up in the next game. Since they revealed that third party characters were a possibility, lots of people went pretty haywire. XD

SO! It all started when I decided to make a kirby in metaknight's outfit. Having done a couple other "pseudo-3D" renders of kirby in the past, it wasn't hard, and was mostly a joke, but people were impressed with my photoshop abilities. SO! I made a wario. Aaaaaaand, eventually it led to me finding out what characters the most people wanted to see! So I found out what the crowds were screaming for, and I made "Kirby hats" for those characters. Pretty soon, I found myself making them nonstop!

Obviously, it involved a lot of speculation as to how the character would look in a SSB game, and how some older characters would be modernized. So it all required lots of research and applying principles of "modernization" to some of the older or sprite-only characters. After a little while, the real kirby hats showed up on the DOJO, and I had the opportunity to compare my speculations with the real thing. I was close on some, and WAY off on others. But it was all fun. After the release of brawl, I stopped making them, because I saw no more point since we knew who was in. But it was fun while it lasted!

So, I did get a LOT of experience out of it. I learned how to work faster, and I gained a better understanding of how 3D models interact with themselves and their environments. It was also this project that gave me enough experience in "pseudo-3D rendering" to try to attempt even harder projects, which led to the sonic characters you see now on my page! XD So it was really great for me, and it's helped to get my name out there as an artist! (It even has me a google keyword suggestion when you type "hextu" XP)

By the way, these are not, I repeat, NOT edits of Melee screenshots!! +_+ SOOO many people all over the place assume that, so I wanna clear that up. MOST of these are completely from scratch. a FEW contain parts that I cut out of existing images, mostly from the DOJO, but all of the Kirbies (without the hats) are done by me. Not by melee... just wanna make that clear. ;;

There are a few "other versions" of some of these that I decided weren't worth posting here. You'll probably find them floating around somewhere anyway if you look . By the way, these are all in order of creation, except for Masahiro Sakurai, which I put at the end for "effect" (I guess... >_>
